Health Journey Updates

Starting today, my goal is to go alcohol free. I’ve always been sober curious; however, as an older millennial, a glass of wine here, a dirty martini there, is all too normal. Lately, I’ve been noticing that drinking doesn’t make me feel good, and not just the day after. The day (or night) that I drink, I start to feel sick to my stomach. I can’t hold food down, and my skin starts to get red. None of this is attractive to me, thus why I’ve decided to stop drinking for the time being.

One of the major reasons why I want to stop drinking is my skin. I’ve been noticing that my healthy glow disappears when I drink, and the morning after, my skin is drier than a rock. Of course this makes sense. Alcohol dehydrates the body by increasing urination and causing the body to lose necessary fluids and electrolytes. Eventually, if you continue to drink frequently (and heavily), your skin starts to look dry, fine lines appear more noticeable, and you just look tired. Eventually, drink enough alcohol and it will age you. So this is my main goal for putting a pin in my alcohol consumption.

My next reason is my fitness. I’m currently on a health journey where I’ve been focusing on getting in regular workouts, taking my dog out for three walks a day, and trying to maintain a well-balanced diet. Drinking alcohol leaves me feeling bloated the next day, which covers up any progress I’ve made in my abdominals. I’m going south in December to spend time with my family, and we’re taking a weekend vacation to a tropical location. I dream of having abs like I’ve never seen before on myself, which means that alcohol is off the table until then.

This is going to be a journey, and I plan to journal about my experience throughout this process. I’m also on the look out for hydration products that are natural and chemical-free, so I’ll have to journal about my experiences with those as well.
