Come with me to Silver Lake
As an Angeleno, I live on the Westside. Why? Well, the beach is the main reason. To me, the ocean, beach and boardwalk are what I think about when I think of LA. However, there are many neighborhoods that make up this vibrant city. Throughout this summer, I’m trying to visit as many neighborhoods that I can.
Silver Lake can be found on the East side of LA. It’s a colorful and quirky area with a ton of restaurants, bars and some great music venues. One of my favorite things to do in Silver Lake is walk around the Silver Lake Reservoir, a 2.2-mile loop which is popular for fitness fans and people watching. There are actually two reservoirs - the Ivanhoe Reservoir lies just to the north. I love coming here, and seeing people being active. Silver Lake Meadows is a quaint park just off the reservoir where people can picnic with friends and family. I came here on the perfect day, with the weather in the low 70’s, and a ton of people running and walking the reservoir loop.

After completing the loop, I took my dog down to Silver Lake Junction - the main strip of the neighborhood. Here lies the hub for shopping and dining. One of my favorite parts of this area are the hidden staircases. Personally, I enjoy the Music Box Steps which were made famous by Laurel and Hardy. Additionally, the Micheltorena stairs are great for the glutes.
Sunset Junction offers a variety of trendy shops. Below are some of my favorites:
Mohawk General Store: The space is beautiful, and it’s great to peruse the clothes, shoes, bags, etc.
Clover: This fashion boutique always has great gifts when I’m on the hunt for birthday or anniversary gifts.
Markt: I love the vintage pieces here!
Additionally, you’ll find tons of bars and restaurants on (or near) Sunset Junction. I tend to come out to Silver Lake solo with my dog, and I’ve never felt uncomfortable dining alone. This is coming from a person who generally feels awkward solo dining. Most of the restaurants are dog-friendly, and sometimes it’s great to just relax on a patio and people watch.
Bacari Silver Lake: There are a few Bacari locations in LA, but this one takes the cake for the most beautiful patio. The Mediterranean-inspired tapas dishes are delicious as well.
Izakaya Ozen: I highly recommend securing a reservation as this place can be busy. Excellent food and great service.
33 Taps: This is a great spot if you don’t want to wait in line at Bacari or Izakaya. The menu is a QR code

Silver Lake is one of my favorite hipster neighborhoods. It’s completely walkable, with tons of street art lining the streets. It’s eclectic, vibrant, and has a bustling arts scene.
